Shredding Paper - "Outta Davis, California (a parasitic town that sucks on Sacramento) comes some BIG, crunchy fuzz-pop. This really rocks a lot harder than I thought, with big, thick bass-lines and Collm-ish (MBV) power drumming. There's some obvious influences here: MBV ("Isn't Anything" more than "Loveless"), early Stereolab, but the raw noise is also apparently more direcly influenced byHenry's Dress' power-droning first 7 inch and 10 inch. The boyish vocals keep it from going off into Unsane land, which is too bad, but I thik if they did get all crazy like that, everyone but me would run screaming. I keep missing them, but now I think I better get on my horse." matt

Held Like Sound
The Electro Group Lifter 7" Omnibus
Sounding like a relic from the early '90s Slumberland era, Electro Group play fuzzed out noise pop. This trio definitely knows what it's doing and it shows. The two songs here are well crafted and drenched in distortion and tremolo. The vocals are surprisingly upfront , showing maybe a little less of the MBV sensibilities that the early '90s bands embraced a little too heartily. The break in the middle of "Lifter" works well to accentuate the wall of noise that surrounds it. If anything this kind of reminds me bands like Edsel, who took from that noisy, poppy school and merged it with slightly experimental tendencies. (JD)

Post-rock meets MBV shoegazer, lovely.Electro Group play an interesting mixture of late 80's shoegazer, indie-pop, and driving Unwound-style emo/post-rock. Off beat song structure, driving feedback and distorted guitars, yet melodic and catchy songs with gentle falsetto vocals. MBV fans will flip over this record. Not as clean and together as their newest 7", but a great single. "Green Machine" is my favorite listen.
