MATES OF STATE "s/t" 7" (Omnibus) ok, this duo have been one of the most impressionable bands that i've heard out there in a long time. With the possitive upbeat pop that M.O.S brings you, and the clever song writing skill these kids pull, I can honestly say that this band is one of my favorite bands around. This is a two piece where both sing (male and female harmonizing) and both play an instrument (very good drums with brilliant organ playing). I can't really compare them to anyone exactly but i guess the vocals remind me of Rainer Maria but these kids do it better, and the music is just warm heart felt pop that makes you want to smile and be happy. I'm a very happy camper that this 7" is out because thier only other release (split 7" with Fighter D on Omnibus) just wasn't enough to get my fill of this band. We want more! Well until there is more Mates Of State you get 2 new songs. Go get this or miss out!(JK)

Mates Of State - "It's The Law" 7" (Omnibus)
I've been wanting to hear this band for a while, ever since I heard them compared to Wolfie. Well, now that I have, I can say that I don't hear any Wolfie at all (maybe a bit of Busytoby). These kids are a two-piece, where he drums, she plays organ & they both sing. And they sing loud. Not shouting, but I bet they can practice without microphones. The A-side starts out with the silly "meow mix" intro, and then goes into a very Built To Spill-like tune. Very catchy! The b-side has a more complicated math-rockesque rhythm. Very good full sound on this. Clear vinyl, too! MTQ=2/2
