San Francisco's Trackstar is a Lo-Fi three-piece who put out solid,
bare-bones Pop songs. Unlike most Pop music bands, Trackstar has a firm
grasp on the importance of subtlety; their songs are not raucous, sloppy
affairs but mildly, subversively addictive with soft vocals and carefully
punctuated guitar. "The Chord" is, as they said, short and sweet...and
better the more times you play it. I suggest playing it twice in a row, then
flipping it over and playing the even shorter and sweeter b-side "Green to
Gold", and then playing the A-side one more time. That is Trackstar's
musical shrewdness-they understand that a shorts songs that do all they need
to do beat out long, over inflated songs any day. (The best example of this
is, of course, to see Trackstar live, when they display this knack for
ending songs exactly when they should be ended over and over again.). This
seven-inch, by the way, has what is perhaps the most amusingly welfare
packaging that I have ever seen. The art for what amounts to the sleeve is
basically a piece of regular orange paper folded in half with crows or
ravens or something all over it. If that's not enough of a reason to buy it,
I don't know what is. Well, no, I do-you should buy this for the songs, duh.
I like the Trackstar.

Yay! A new Track Star release! Of course I still haven't gotten the CD but
that 10" from years ago is still one of the greatest records ever. Ah, but
to the record at hand. The A-side is the lovely song 'The Chord' which is
the more upbeat number. It is every bit as good as Track Star c. 1994-1995
(only a higher quality recording) and the B-side is 'Green to Gold' which is
more along the lines of a stripped down Aislers Set Wyatt song. Beautiful
record, can't wait for the new full length. Corey Bowl
